On Thursday, September 10th, Woodshed Archive kicks off its 2015 Fall Season with a bang. Prettier Than Matt (Jessica Skinner & Jeff Pitts) are hotter than ever right now. We can’t wait to welcome them to the woodshed and have them share their talents live with the Woodshed Archive online audience!
The indie-folk-rock acoustic duo Prettier Than Matt formed in 2010 when Jessica Skinner and Jeff Pitts met and discovered that their musical talents
complemented each other well enough to form a duo and make a go of writing and performing songs for others. I think I first saw them at a (now defunct) White Mule open mic night and was immediately impressed. Since then, they have worked and played hard, performing at festivals, restaurants, & pubs, in Columbia and around the southeast.
Most people are curious about the band’s name and the story of its origin doesn’t disappoint. Dan Armonaitis relates the story in a 2012 article in
“The bass player in Jeff’s band is named Matt (Biddle), and before (Jeff) met me, they tried doing some acoustic stuff together,” Skinner said. “Well, Jeff and I played an open mic night at one of our now-regular venues, and a friend of ours, one of the bartenders, said, ‘She’s prettier than Matt.’ That same night, they wanted to book us for an actual gig, and we didn’t have a name, so we were like, ‘Let’s just go with Prettier Than Matt.’ I guess it just stuck.”
PTM’s recordings include “Play Pretty” (2013), a Christmas EP (2014), and most recently, an EP with five new originals, “Prettier Than Matt” (2014).
And now, Woodshed Archive will be adding to PTM’s “discography” with their upcoming performance at the woodshed recorded and broadcast live, as well as archived and played on Woodshed Radio (as are all Woodshed Archive live events).
As the 2014 Charlotte Music Awards Folk Artist Of The Year winners, Prettier Than Matt continue to surge forward on their musical path, entertaining audiences with their enjoyable songs, solid instrumentation, captivating vocals, and engaging stage presence!
