This week, Woodshed Archive is pleased to welcome The Diamonds in the Rough, a group of seasoned artists led by Debra Watkins offering a unique blend of alternative acoustic bluegrass, old blues, old folk, gospel, old country, public domain, civil war songs, and originals. These talented musicians are all well-known musicians at all the regular pickin’ spots in the area. Join us for the live broadcast online Thursday, May 19, 2016 from 8:00 – 10:00pm.
In 2004, Debra Carter Watkins formed The Diamonds in the Rough in Ohio. She moved to South Carolina in 2008 and started the new Diamonds in the Rough after discovering Bill’s Pickin’ Parlor and meeting her current band mates there and at other pickin’ events around town. A member of Singer Songwriters of South Carolina and the SC Bluegrass Association, Debra is also the founder of Ladies of the Pickin’ Parlor, a band comprised of women musicians who frequent Bill’s Pickin’ Parlor and enjoy performing their Americana acoustic style music with sweet harmonies at festivals, parties, and events.
Rounding out The Diamonds in the Rough at the Woodshed are Tom Coolidge, Dave Derrick, and John Wetzel – all experienced pickers and vocalists who also perform in other projects throughout the region. We hope to see you online Thursday night and please come back to the Woodshed Archive website in the future to hear the archived recording and view photos from the session.
